Battambang Bat Cave
Visiting Battambang Bat Cave at sunset is one of the most highly recommended experiences when you travel to Battambang city. When the sun goes down, at the foot of Phnom Sampeau mountain, some curious people will gather here to observe a magnificent sight that thousands of bats like "burst out" from a cave to start their night hunts.
About 11km outside of town centre, Phnom Sampeau is an interesting destination for travelers loving discovering history. The area has two highligh points such as the Killing Cave which used to be used by the Khmer Rouge army as a place to store corpses of over ten thousand innocent war victim and the Bat Cave. In history, the caves in Phnom Sampeau were dark places as the residence of Khmer Rouge forces. Therefore, Cambodians believe that the image of the "burst out" bat herd is the soul of the victims of genocide trying to free themselves from the prisons. At present, at the top of the mountain is also the place of a quiet temple where the bones of war victims are kept in glass cages.
Battambang Bat Cave
The Bat Cave shows an amazing spectacle at around 5 pm each day - thousands of bats leave their cave as dusk falls, begining their nocturnal hunting. A black streak stretched among the sky, vibrating with sound waves, before dispersing on the horizon illuminated by starlight. A steady stream flying out for around 45 minutes then back to their caves.
Visitors usually combine the Bat Cave's observation to climbing to the top of Phnom Sampeau where houses a temple, thr trip seems as backing to the past to understand and feel the loss of Cambodians under Khmer Rouge army.

This famous limestone mountain is located on NK57 road and the entrance ticket to the complex of temples and caves is around 3 USD. There are many mischievous monkey on the road to the top of mountain. You can go upstairs or go on a cement road next to a small restaurant to visit.
