Saturday Night Market Wua Lai Road
Wualai, known as the Saturday walking street, is a fun and lively night market that is held in Chiang Mai just a short walk from the old city walls. This is a historic town of Thailand. Wualai is an actually normal street but when the commercial starts, the street will be closed.
It starts in the late afternoon and continues until 22:30. The atmosphere here is so perfect to be regarded as the most famous Sunday night walking street because of the fact that even though it is smaller, there are not the same crowds of people, so it creates a much more leisurely stroll. Not only are there plenty of local-made products and handicraft items, it is also a good place to pick up some tasty snacks to provide sustenance when you wander around. Wualai Road connects to Thipanet Road, which is near the south side of the old city walls and around a ten to fifteen - minute walk from Tha Pae Gate. It is really easy to get dropped off by a public van (songtaew) or tuk near the far end.

The Saturday night walking street becomes more and more well known. Towards sunset, this place tends to be at the busiest time. It is still easy enough to walk along one side and then back along another one, checking out all the various stalls. There are various types of stalls at Wualai Market. It includes hill tribe souvenirs and “I love Thailand T-shirts as well as some more exciting stands selling accessories and clothing from local designers, original paintings and even one or two orchid, if you think they will survive the journey home! Wualai Road was once more famous for its lacquer and silverware workshops. Moreover, there are still a handful of shops, which usually open in the evenings. It often takes visitors around an hour or two to wander around the market, sometimes it also depends on how many stops you take to eat.

A large number of people come here for the food as much as the shopping. There are local restaurants serving hot Thai food: fried rice, barbecue fish, som tam and pad Thai. There are also many stands selling snacks to enjoy as you walk, including traditional Thai sweets made from coconut, satay with fiery peanut dipping sauce and freshly blended smoothies. After having a wander and some food, you can rest at one of the street side massage booths. There is no better way to end an evening.

Wualai is considered as the best walking street market in Chiang Mai. If you are good at bargaining, the prices of buying your chosen goods can be cheaper than elsewhere. Besides, the variety of stalls is more interesting. Although it is bustling, there is a friendly vibe and it is a must - do whilst visiting the city.
