Vietnam Visa Exemption
Before being confused about how to apply for a visa to Vietnam, please notice that some citizens from some specific countries may visit Vietnam without a visa for a period of time. The lists below indicate countries and regions that have visa exemption arrangements with Vietnam (for regular passports).

Other exceptions:
- Phu Quoc Island is a Special Economic zone, hence tourists are allowed to stay on the island for up to 30 days without a visa. However, tourists will need a visa to visit other parts of Vietnam (if they do not have an exemption).

- Citizens from the following countries holding diplomatic or official passports are allowed to stay in Vietnam with free visa:
90 days: Armenia, Algeria, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Dominican, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, France, Hungary, India, Iraq, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Myanmar, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Russia, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, UAE, Uruguay, Venezuela.
60 days: Uzbekistan (only holding diplomatic passport).
30 days: Angola, Azerbaijan, China, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Myanmar.
- Citizens from the following countries holding diplomatic or official passports are exempt a visa to Vietnam:
Afghanistan, Albania, Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, Nicaragua, and Romania.
90 days: Czech, Estonia, Germany, France, Israel, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland (only holding diplomatic passports).
60 days: Uzbekistan (only holding diplomatic passport).
30 days: Iran (only holding diplomatic passports).
- Citizens holding APEC business travel cards are granted visa-free to Vietnam for up to 60 days.
Types of Vietnam Visa
Tourist Visa: There are two kinds of tourist visa for 1 and 3 months and you can apply also for single entry or multiple entry. Once arrive in Vietnam, tourists can also apply for the Visa Extension of Tourist Visa if they want to spend more time here. You can apply for it here.
Business Visa: It is for those who want to go to Vietnam for business purposes. You can flexibly apply for a business visa to be able to enter multiple times for 3 or 6 months without actually working in the country.
Other Types: Other types of Visa such as Work Visa, Diplomatic Visas, Official Visas, Student Visa, etc. are for those who migrate to Vietnam for special purposes and are applicable only with special requirements and special procedures.

Vietnam Visa On Arrival (VOA)
Visa On Arrival program has just been revived in 2024 - a few years opening for tourists again after the pandemic. There will be a few changes to this program, especially when the Vietnam government decides to have 8 airports accept the VOA instead of only 3 options as in 2020. However, in general, the applying procedure remains the same.
The VOA was popular for its convenience as it is applied for both travel and business purposes. However, at present, the staying policy has been changed. To be more specific:
- VOA for travel purposes: valid for up to 25-day stay only and no extension
- VOA for business purposes: valid for up to 3 months stay and can be extended once
Which Vietnam’s borders accept the VOA?
Visa On Arrival is only accepted at some airports in Vietnam:
- Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi)
- Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City)
- Da Nang International Airport (Da Nang)
- Cat Bi International Airport (Hai Phong)
- Cam Ranh International Airport (Khanh Hoa)

How to apply?
