Viking Cave

Viking Cave is one of the most popular tourist attractions on Koh Phi Phi Leh. The cave is located at the bottom of a tall limestone cliff on the northeastern side of the island. You need about 30 minutes to get there by long-tail boat from Tonsai Bay, the main pier in Phi Phi Islands. The cave is about 3.2 square kilometers in size; with a height of around 10 to 15 meters.
A lot of cruise stop here during its day trip around Phi Phi island. Some people love snorkeling around the Viking Cave. The water here is super clear and you can see amazing fish. Snorkeling gear will be provided by the boat if you are on the tour, so you do not need to bring with you

Viking Cave is home to a famous bird’s nest which used to make soup. The soup is preferred by the Chinese as they believe the soup is good for your health, containing top health properties such as Iron, Potassium, Nutrients, Vitamins. Harvesting the bird’s nests is a risky job. Hunters need to build the scaffolds with bamboo on which they climb in the darkness to collect the bird’s nest. Each kilo will be sold at a price of 2500USD per kilo. These bird’s nests are believed to save the lives of some sailors during a storm. Local people say that a long time ago sailors lost their boat during a storm, got stuck on the island. They found the bird’s nests which help them survive until being rescued.

The Viking Cave is also famous for its unique drawings found on the eastern southern walls of the cave. These drawings represent various types of boats, including what resembles a Scandinavian drakkar.
How to get there:
The easiest way to get there is by signing up for a boat tour around Phi Phi from Phuket or Krabi. You can also hire a long-tail boat from Tonsai pier or from nearby Laem Tong. The boat trip costs around 2000 Baht for a day and you can freely explore the most interesting places around Phi Phi island.
